What is Global Roaming Service?

With this service, the phone number and e-mail address of your SoftBank 3G handset in Japan can be used overseas. You can enjoy Voice Call, Video Call, Mail, and Web by connecting to the overseas carrier (GSM network or 3G network) partners of SoftBank.

GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication)

The most widely used digital format second-generation mobile communication network in the world. Voice Call, SMS, and S! Mail (MMS)/Web are available.

  • S! Mail/Web is not available in some regions.
  • GSM networks are not available in Japan.

3G (W-CDMA (Wideband-Code Division Multiple Access))

This is a third-generation mobile communication network adopted mainly in Japan, Europe, South Korea, and other countries. Voice Call, SMS, S! Mail (MMS)/Web, and Video Call are available.

  • S! Mail/Web is not available in some regions.
  • Video Call is not available in some regions.

Areas and Rates

Your current price plans, free communication allowance of fixed-rate discounts (Unlimited Packet Discount, Packet Flat-rate Full), and other discount services do not apply to Voice Call, S! Mail (MMS), and Web communication used outside Japan. Please check our Global Roaming Service Areas and Call Rates here.

  • Services may differ depending on country and region.
  • Even if you do not have a SoftBank handset compatible with Global Roaming Service, inserting your USIM card into a Global Roaming compatible SoftBank handset lets you use your phone number and e-mail address overseas (except iPhone 3G).
