See the Apple website for details on new iPhone OS features.

How to update iPhone OS software

1. iTunes installation/update
Download iTunes 8.2 or later from the Apple website and install it in the computer you normally sync your iPhone 3G with.
If you already use iTunes, update to version 8.2 or later.
  • iTunes is free to download and use.
2. iPhone OS software update
Open iTunes on your computer and connect your iPhone.
Select "iPhone" under "DEVICES" in the iTunes sidebar.
Click "Check update" and the "Summary" tab to display update information.
Click "Download and install" to begin iPhone OS installation.

MMS

MMS is available after updating to iPhone OS 3.0 or later.
Your current @softbank.ne.jp (@△.vodafone.ne.jp) e-mail address is still usable.

Notes

  • A server mailbox for MMS is automatically created for all iPhone users regardless of iPhone OS software version.
  • Please note that received mails are stored in the server mailbox for 30 days and then automatically deleted. Mail cannot be retrieved after deletion (regardless of software version).
  • iPhone 3G with OS 2.x or earlier version cannot receive S! Mail/MMS. However, the sender is still charged communication rates based on his/her price plan.
  • Some applications may become incompatible after upgrading the OS.
  • Internet tethering and auto log-in functions for Wi-Fi are not available in Japan.
